Matisse Beach Club goes into voluntary administration

MATISSE, the beach club which tried to add some glamour to Scarborough, has gone into voluntary administration.

The beachfront venue’s sole director, Sean Reid, called in administrators Rob Kirman and Rob Brauer from restructuring and insolvency firm McGrathNicol’s local office on Friday.

Mr Reid declined to comment yesterday but it is believed the interruption to the business caused by the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority’s $100 million development of the Scarborough beachfront was a factor in Matisse’s demise.

Ten days ago, the club closed its doors for what it said was “a winter break” brought on by encroaching construction.

A notice on Matisse’s website notes the “significant disruptions to our business with the entire closure of the (Scarborough) Esplanade in front of Matisse as the MRA continues to redevelop the area”.

“It is not viable for us to trade during this disruption,” the notice says.
