Running with Thieves acquired by Simm Group of Companies months after exiting voluntary administration

An embattled South Fremantle brewery will keep its doors open via its acquisition by Simm Group of Companies.

Atari Enterprises — which is behind Running with Thieves — entered voluntary administration in August last year, when it cited difficult trading conditions.

The West Australian later revealed the Australian Tax Office was suing the brewery’s boss Scott Douglas for unpaid, private tax bills in a Supreme Court action launched three days after an administrator was appointed to Atari.

The brewery exited voluntary administration in November.

But in a positive turn of events for the business, Running with Thieves announced its acquisition by Simm Group of Companies late 2023.

This week it said the move would end a “brief hiatus” and while many other businesses may have “ground to a complete stop in the same circumstances”, the venue had continued with business as usual.
